I will try to point out the best of both categories: affiliate programs that are the most FLEXIBLE and programs that perform exceptionally in PROPER CONTEXT. Let’s face it – as webmasters we try to balance the use of our time with 1) Efficient easy to implement strategies we can do brainlessly 2) Invest in more time consuming well-scrutinized strategies that involve more brainpower and time to pinpoint opportunities. I feel that webmasters that can balance between these 2 approaches are the most successful. Do things exact and very specifically when time allows, but always try to get in some broad and easy to implement strategies as well. Broad and specific. Combine the two and you should do very well. Let’s clarify what BEST AFFILIATE PROGRAMS means in the context of this article. BEST refers to top performing affiliate programs that get the most sales and provide the highest commission in relation to the number of page views the affiliate advertisement receives, as well as consideration of the click through ratio. That’s a mouthful... Basically the goal is to find affiliate programs that suit our page themes and will get us the most clicks and more importantly the most sales. The key to success is PROPER PLANNING. The success of an affiliate program depends very much on proper placement in topic relevant web pages. If you are looking for affiliate programs to utilize on your web site, it would be helpful to first map out the themes of your web site(s). In addition it would be beneficial to prepare a list of your primary keywords and phrases. Ideally you should be doing this analysis with one web site at a time and analyzing what topics you are presenting your visitors with and matching the topics to affiliate programs that suit the themes. The idea is to get you to focus on your CONTENT and the DEMOGRAPHICS of the PEOPLE who visit your WEB PAGES. The single greatest tip I can lay on you is to try to blend the affiliate programs advertisement to a topic relevant page and if at all possible include it in the text of an article or editorial. A quick example: The Amazon Affiliate Program is a GREAT solid performer on GENERAL TOPIC web pages (news, weather blah blah). Amazon is very flexible and can be used effectively on almost any web page with any topic. A general themed banner or text ad can get decent results and make you some nice money with very little effort. Just slap on a general banner or broad appeal book or video and you will get some sales. Good but not BEST. Better way to utilize Amazon. Think niche! Amazon performs best when you tie in a TEXT SPECIFIC LINK that relates directly to the PAGE TOPIC and blend it into the editorial on the page. The Amazon search results page for BIRD WATCHING is loaded with products to tantalize almost any bird watching fanatic. If they buy something you get a commission. The utilization of page topic is very effective and pushes the best affiliate programs to maximum success. Now here is a SECRET TIP that very few are in on... the greatest benefit of becoming an Amazon Affiliate is not making money from selling Amazon products... Huh? Whuh??? That’s right! I’lll let you in on a little secret. The true power of the Amazon Affiliate Program is that it opens up a world of CONTENT to participating webmasters. Content? Yes, CONTENT. The savvy webmaster can exploit the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of products that Amazon.com markets by utilizing the Affiliate Program (Associates) to not only make money selling items but utilizing the wealth of WORDS describing that boat load of products. Did I get your interest yet? Just think of the millions and millions of WORDS used to describe all those hot selling products! You can make money as an Associate by selling things and better yet – you can increase the number of pages on your web site and capture rankings for keywords you never even dreamed of by featuring Amazon products on your web sites. Best thing is that Amazon wants you to use their descriptions and reviews and wish lists to promote sales on their site. They want you to use words and TEXT LINKS that bring people to Amazon.com. This is a dream come true for any savvy webmaster that desires to start a new affiliate program and GET MORE PAGE VIEWS by easily introducing new content. It is pretty mundane work, and a bit tedious but the fact is that, saturated as the world is with lawyers, having the right marketing consulting can make all of the difference, and that is a fact. I have been lately wanting to get involved in another area of marketing consulting, however. I just am so sick and tired of what I do that I can not stand it. I was thinking of getting into food marketing and advertising. I like that. It feels almost like honest work. I mean, people really do need and consume food, unlike lawyers. You get to tantalize the pallet, and to stimulate the appetite. It sounds like the area of marketing consulting for me. It is sure a lot more glamorous than what I am doing now. But getting started in another area of marketing consulting involves getting all new clientèle. Tedious, to say the least. |
